Why do we choose those that we are familiar with over those that we cannot familiarize with instantaneously?
Just because animals cannot speak multiple languages, or urbanize acres of land, does not mean that they are lesser than us. Do we not both eat, breath, and communicate with the world?
We have come to accept the fact that we are ‘the greater race,’ we have been told so and have thought so throughout history. But what of the dolphin? Or the pig? Has science not shown us that they equal us in intelligence?
But yet we still slaughter them and disregard them as lowly beasts. They may not walk on two legs, or are clearly understandable, but does that really mean we are better? We think that we cannot share the land, so instead take it over.
We think that we cannot listen to animals simply because we cannot understand them, so we view them as ‘dumb’ and ‘unreasoning.’ But maybe we’re the unreasoning and dumb beasts.
If living things are our equals in needs and thoughts, why not treat them as equals in general? Aldo Leopold states it clearly: “If the land mechanism as a whole is good, then every part is good, whether we understand it or not."

Animals have rights, not just humans do. So take the time and stop the crime.
Living creatures have to stay living.

Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world.
Bullfighting is the most indefensible type of animal abuse. Our footage shows in horrifying detail what happens at these events.
1º - A cowardly picador slams a spear into a bull from relative safety on top of a horse. The bull attacks the horse, believing it be the source of his torment. The horse is used as a living shield by a thug who doesn't know the meaning of integrity, bravery, or a fair fight.
2º - A bull in obvious physical distress can do nothing but stand and bleed, with several decorative tags still hanging from his mutilated body. During it all, sickeningly festive band music plays for the crowds.
3º - Crowds cheer as a mutilated bull named Bright Eyes falls to the ground once he's too weak to stand. Several matadors stand around waving their capes trying to look useful while the bull collapses.
4º - A matador approaches the fallen bull Bright Eyes from behind and knifes the animal in the back of the neck. The bull falls over with eyes bulging in shock and terror. The matador continues to cut the still consious animal, while children run over to see the gore and blood close up.
5º - After being tortured beyond imagination, the fallen bull Bright Eyes has to endure one more atrocity as his ear is cut off for a trophy. Blood runs down the skull and pools under the animal's head. Bright Eyes is somehow still alive and conscious, feeling every cut and jab. The crowd continues to cheer and whistle, fully aware of what has just happened.
6º - A matador drives a sword between the shoulders of a bull. As usual, the sword does not kill the victim, and the thugs run around the bull to make him move, so the sword will cut up his insides.
7º - Stabbed in the lungs, and spewing blood from his nose and mouth, a bull is run in circles by the killer thugs. This causes the sword to cut up the victim's insides.
8º - Bulls are rarely killed by the thrust of the sword, and this victim was no exception. As he lowers in agony and complete submission, a coward approaches him from behind. Even now the "bullfighter" has no courage!
9º - Still conscious, but paralyzed from being stabbed in the back of the neck to mutilate his spinal cord, the bull is dragged from the bullring by ropes tied around his back legs. He was butchered alive.

Para homenagear os pombos e os amadores que praticam esta modalidade, a Associação Columbófila do Distrito de Faro promove no Sábado, dia 28 de Novembro 2009, a sua Grande Festa Anual da Columbófilia Algarvia, na Quinta do Sobral, em Castro Marim.
Este evento tem como objectivo destacar os valores da columbófilia algarvia, incentivando, divulgando, premiando e sobretudo, reconhecendo os Grandes Campeões da Columbófilia Algarvia.
Na cerimónia vão ser entregues os prémios que homenageiam os columbófilos, Campeões Distritais por Zonas, assim como os atletas, os pombos-correios, premiados pelos seus feitos com as várias anilhas, em ouro, prata e bronze.
Destaque ainda para a entrega de prémios respeitantes ao Concurso Internacional de DAX/FRANÇA, uma vez que, a Associação Columbófila do Distrito de Faro (ACD Faro) e a Federação Columbófila de Andaluzia (FCA), uniram-se para de forma pioneira, organizarem em conjunto uma prova de grande-fundo (mais de 900 kms), solta que teve a particulariedade de se realizar para lá dos Pirinéus. Para além do aliciante que é uma prova internacional deste quilate, a participação dos columbófilos portugueses e espanhóis foi totalmente gratuita, contando com os apoios da ACD Faro, da FCA e da Entidade Regional Turismo do Algarve (ERTA).
Esta é ainda, uma ocasião para troca de ideias, experiências, debates, e entrega dos prémios com a Família Columbófila, num almoço de Amizade e Confraternização, no sentido de se projectar e impulsionar a Columbófilia Algarvia.

La Marcha Mundial comenzará en Nueva Zelanda el 2 de octubre de 2009, día del aniversario del nacimiento de Gandhi y declarado por la Naciones Unidas día Internacional de la No-Violencia. Finalizará en la cordillera de Los Andes, en Punta de Vacas, al pie del Monte Aconcagua el 2 de enero de 2010. Durante estos 93 días, pasará por más de 90 países y 100 ciudades, en los cinco continentes. Cubrirá una distancia de 160.000 km por tierra. Algunos tramos se recorrerán por mar y por aire. Pasará por todos los climas y estaciones, desde el verano tórrido de zonas tropicales y el desierto, hasta el invierno siberiano. Las etapas más largas serán la americana y la asiática, ambas de casi un mes. Un equipo base permanente de cien personas de distintas nacionalidades hará el recorrido completo. saludos, tambiem por ellos.
LANÇAMENTO DA 1ª PEDRA DAS FUTURAS INSTALAÇÕES DA SEDE DA ASSOCIAÇÃO COLUMBÓFILA DO DISTRITO DE FARO TERÁ LUGAR NO PRÓXIMO SÁBADO (DIA 12 SETEMBRO 2009) PELAS 10 HORAS !!!
É já no próximo sábado (dia 12 de Setembro 2009), pelas 10 horas que será efectuada a cerimónia simbólica da colocação da 1ª pedra das futuras instalações da Sede da ACD Faro.
A grande "obra" dos Corpos Sociais desta Associação para com a columbófilia algarvia, será sem dúvida, a construção da Sede Social da ACD Faro (projecto que sucessivas direcções há mais de vinte anos, tem intentado, mas sem se concretizar).
Neste sentido, a ACD Faro assinou o protocolo e a escritura, de um terreno cedido pela Câmara Municipal de Loulé, inserido na Zona Industrial (junto à Fábrica da Cerveja), cujo projecto terá uma área coberta de mais de 800 m2 e um custo estimado de 350.000 euros.
Numa 1ª fase serão realizadas as obras relativas à estrutura metálica da área multiusos (garagem, salas múltiplas) com a área de 436 m2.
Na 2ª fase serão realizadas as obras respeitantes à construção da estrutura em betão armado da parte destinada aos serviços, com a área de 375 m2.
Na fase final do anúncio público para a construção da Sede da ACD Faro, foram apresentadas propostas de três grupos de empresas.
A escolha recaiu sobre a empresa que apresentou o melhor preço e garantias em termos da construção da obra, que eram afinal, os principais critérios de selecção.
Constituindo-se como uma obra estruturante para a Columbófilia Algarvia, no sentido do seu valioso e importante contributo para a organização e promoção do desporto columbófilo, teremos no final uma sede moderna, com todas as condições físicas e técnicas, que honrará e dignificará a Columbófilia Algarvia !!!
Na cerimónia da colocação da 1ª pedra, estarão presentes diversas individualidades ligadas à política e ao desporto.
Fica aqui o convite para todos os columbófilos do Algarve comparecerem neste acto simbólico, mas muito importante na moldura estrutural e organizativa da actividade columbófila na região algarvia.
